About the Chef

I’m Thomas Barta, the chef behind Queenstown Private Chef.

I work privately with guests staying in luxury holiday homes throughout Queenstown, creating calm, restaurant-quality dining experiences in the comfort of their own accommodation.

Much of my work involves designing meals that are prepared ahead and finished later, especially for guests arriving after travel, ski days, or long journeys. These menus are built to be forgiving, comforting, and enjoyable to serve, without last-minute cooking.

This guide reflects how I plan and cook in real homes, for real people. It’s about confidence, restraint, and letting the food support the experience rather than dominate it.

A final note

Entertaining doesn’t need to feel performative

The most memorable meals are often the calmest ones ,  where food arrives at the table effortlessly, conversation flows easily, and no one feels rushed.

Use this guide as a framework, not a rulebook. Adjust it to suit your space, your guests, and your rhythm. Trust simple food, good timing, and generous serving.

That’s where confidence lives.
